Dealing with Dyslexic students ---------------------------------- By:HananShehab Eng.Dept. There are many challenges and factors that might affect the teaching process. As a teacher I try, to constantly find ways to support my students. One of these challenges is teaching dyslexic students. These students face difficulties when it comes to learning basic learning skills, as they are unable to memorizeand hold information as efficiently as other students. Not only that they might struggle from low selfesteem as they fall behind their peers. Some support techniques a teacher can use to aid those students is by allowing themto haveextended extratime for reading and writingas well as for tests and exams. Letting them partner up and, share the writing and reading with other students. Giving outclear, simpleand straight forward directions out loadand, repeating them more than once to check if they arewell understood. Content must be simplified.Worksheets of completed work must also, be provided as a model. Finally, dyslexic students must be graded based on the effort and the mastered content rather than, on thereading and spelling skills.Praising and concentrating on accomplishmentrsquos no matter how small rather than on errors is, a big boost for dyslexic students as, they will feel supported and encouragedand therefore, will thrive academically without feeling uncomfortable. Moias.org
